Tuna Tartare with Pickled Cucumbers & Avocado
Ingredients:
For the Tuna:
1 lb. sushi grade tuna, cut into small cubes
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, peeled and grated
Juice from 1/2 lime
2 teaspoons sesame oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
For Serving:
1/2 cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
Rice vinegar (can substitute white vinegar)
1 avocado, sliced
2 tablespoons sesame seeds (I like to toast mine for a couple of minutes so they get a bit of a crispier texture. You can do this in the toaster oven. Keep an eye on them because they toast quickly!)
Salt & vinegar potato chips (optional)
Directions:
As a first step, prepare your serving cucumbers so they have time to marinate in the vinegar. Place peeled and sliced cucumbers in a bowl and cover with vinegar. Set aside. Mix all ingredients together for the tuna. Toss with tongs and place in the fridge until ready to plate and serve.
For the plating, start with marinated cucumber slices placing them in small, layered circles. Next top with avocado slices. Then spoon the tartare on top carefully. Top with toasted sesame seeds. You should be able to make 3-5 towers of the tartare this way depending on the size. Can be served separately per person or together on a platter. You can also serve with chips. I used salt & vinegar potato chips and it was delish! Serve immediately and enjoy!
